SS Sydney Peace Prize 2021

The judging panel said the statement was a powerful offering of peace that needed to be acted upon by the Australian government. They commended the statement’s call for a constitutionally recognised Indigenous voice to parliament and a Makarrata process to investigate truth-telling and treaty-making in Australia. However, they said it was not enough to have the statement voted on in parliament or put to a referendum. They urged the Australian government to act on the Uluru Statement from the Heart. They also warned that if the Australian government did not implement the statement, the nation could face a civil war.
