Swimming pools might not be the first thing that comes to mind when planning a holiday in Hong Kong, but there’s so much more on offer. Many of the city’s top hotels feature their own swimming facilities and, thanks to a number of skyscrapers, these pools are surrounded by incredible views.
But if you’re looking for something more tranquil, it’s worth checking out one of Hong Kong’s government-run public pools. The cheapest option, these pools are often less busy than their private counterparts. However, it’s worth noting that public pools can be dirty and, if you swim on a weekend, they may be very crowded.
Originally, public pools in Hong Kong were operated by the Urban Council and Regional Council until the creation of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department at the turn of the millennium. Today, all public swimming pools in Hong Kong are managed by the LCSD, with entrance to each pool ranging between $19 for an adult session and $13 for students. Lockers are also available, but be prepared to insert a refundable coin to operate them and bring your own padlock to secure your belongings.
There’s a reason this is known as the best rooftop pool Hong Kong: the 76th floor W Hotel features a gorgeous infinity-edge pool surrounded by incredible, skyline-sweeping vistas. Guests can enjoy a dip, deckchairs for lounging and a pool bar for a post-swim drink. And, with the tagline “Work out. Wind down.”, it’s no wonder the hotel’s gym is located here as well – it’s a good way to burn off a few calories after you’ve enjoyed your swim.
A group of monkeys that gatecrashed two swimming pools at a private club in Tsuen Wan have become the talk of social media. The primates, which were confirmed as rhesus macaques, were caught on video jumping in and out of the pools at the Hill Top Country Club. The poolside area looked like something out of the Gatsby era, complete with marbled Roman columns and striped lounge chairs.
A rooftop pool is a must for any discerning traveler, and the opulent pool at Rosewood Hong Kong doesn’t disappoint. Located on the sixth floor of this luxurious property, the Asaya Pool offers stunning views over the city and is perfect for swimming laps or just relaxing poolside with a drink. And, if you want to get the most out of your staycation at this 5-star hotel, Klook has you covered with their comprehensive pool HK deals.
