Doug Johnson immediately fell in love with Yoga when he started practicing regularly at DYP in 2006. He noticed a commonality and a synergy between Yoga and the Zen Meditation he had been teaching and practicing for over 10 years. He felt that teaching yoga could help him lead a more spiritually focused life and set the intention to one day become a certified yoga instructor.  After three years of continuing to deepening both practices, he started working at DYP in early 2009 to help prepare for teacher training.

After researching several different options for his 200 hour training he decided on Kripalu yoga due to its compassionate nature and deep meditative style.  Doug is now a certified Kripalu yoga teacher, having attended teacher training at Discovery Yoga in St. Augustine, FL with Deva Parnell.  Deva, a former director of teacher training at Kripalu yoga Ashram in Massachusetts, has been training yoga teachers for over 30 years now and was instrumental in the development of Kripalu yoga as we know it today.

Doug now teaches yoga and meditation in and around Decatur.  He brings a meditative awareness and presence to every class he teaches and is always looking to deepen and expand his practice so that he can share this with his students.  To this end he has recently attended the "Kirtan College Summer School" with "Durga Das" David Newman and is starting to incorporate his first love of music with his love of yoga and meditation through the devotional practice of kirtan and bhakti yoga by leading kirtans in Decatur and incorporating chanting and live music into his and others' yoga classes.
