Classes

We have three yoga rooms and offer classes for every level of practitioner. Please note the class levels below and choose a class that best suits your practice level.

LEVEL 1

Appropriate for students who are new to yoga, or are starting back after an absence from practice. A good way to begin again and reconnect with the foundation of yoga.

LEVEL 2

Appropriate for students who are more seasoned. Students are familiar with and have earned a strong foundation from consistent practice for at least 6 months. Not suited for beginners.

ALL LEVELS

This class is meant to support the complete beginner as well as the advanced practitioner.

We have 3 yoga rooms: the Hot room,
Lotus room and Zen room. The Lotus and
Zen rooms are not heated.

Yoga Basics

This class is designed to educate students on the foundations of yoga for a safe and joyful practice. Whether you are new to yoga, have injuries or would like to refine your understanding of the practice, this class is a great way to cultivate a deeper experience with your yoga practice and with your self. Receive individualized attention in a supportive environment as you develop flexibility, strength, balance, endurance, ease, mental calm and focus.
Level 1.

Restorative

Explore the benefits of stillness, space and relaxation with Restorative yoga. This practice uses both gentle movement and traditional long-held supported postures to help relax and unite mind and body. Great for people who are new to yoga, those recovering from certain injuries or trauma, and those who need to de-stress from work or restore from a more vigorous yoga practice. Each class ends with a meditative guided relaxation called yoga nidra which can bring the healing effects of deep sleep to the mind as well as body restoring your whole being. Zen room.

Yoga Church

In this busy city, taking time to center and ground oneself regularly helps to cultivate a clear mind and open heart. We invite you to gather with us Sunday mornings to experience the powerful way in which practicing yoga in community can help prepare you for the week ahead.  This slow-flow class is both gentle and invigorating, perfect for practitioners of all levels. Infused with alignment cues and meditation, this class will give you the sustenance you need to start off your week more balanced and perhaps even feeling more compassionate toward oneself and others. Pilates

At DY our Pilates mat classes are taught as all level classes. You will be encouraged to work at your particular level. Our teachers are trained to cue students with this in mind. All exercises have prep, beginner and intermediate options and these will be addressed in classes so you can choose the level for which your body is conditioned.

Bikram

A Hatha yoga series (Bikram method) practiced in a heated (103-105 degree) room, consisting of 2 breathing exercises and 26 postures. In the traditional 90 minute class, there are two sets of every pose. In the 60 and 75 minute classes, there will be two sets of most poses, but a few poses will only have one long set. This enables us to offer a 60 and 75 minute format for busy yogis. Hot room.

Karma Donation
Community Class

This donation class is designed with three objectives in mind. It provides a class each week for those who may be struggling with finances during tough economic times, provides an opportunity for teachers who are about to graduate from teacher training to hone their teaching skills and it provides much needed financial support for rescue groups making efforts every day to provide loving homes for our furry friends. This class will be taught in our Lotus Room and will vary from week to week in terms of the teacher and structure of class. Go directly to the Lotus Room, and please take all belongings to class with you. The front desk will be closed at the end of class. 75 minutes. Lotus room.

Deep Stretch Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is a great practice for anyone who is ‘stiff’ looking to improve flexibility. In this class floor poses are held for extended periods of time with the muscles relaxed to allow gravity time to work on the muscles, connective tissue, joints, and even the bones. Because of the nature of the long holds it is a great time for inner-reflection and meditation as well as developing a deeper awareness of both the body and the breath. Unlike restorative yoga where the body is supported by props and the focus is on relaxation, in yin yoga the body is allowed to be pulled by gravity into the pose so that there are certain ‘stresses’ placed on different tissues of the body resulting in a therapeutic effect. It is the TIME that the poses are held that gives yin yoga its power and which also makes it challenging. With care almost anyone can derive benefit from a yin practice, however as with any asana practice special care must be taken to cultivate the right attitude and approach to this unique practice for your individual body. Easy Sunday Flow

This vinyasa-yin based class flows slowly to a jazz playlist. When Billie Holiday sings, “I want a Sunday kind of love,” she’s getting at the heart of this class: chill, comforting and nourishing. With jazz favorites like John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Nina Simone, Chet Baker and Johnny Hartman… what else would be better to hear on a Sunday afternoon? This slow vinyasa class will flow into more static, yet deep stretch yin poses that will leave you in a blissed out state. This class is an all levels class and is perfect for beginners, people working with injuries as well as athletes like runners, and of course, jazz aficionados! Hot room.

Rise and Shine

Begin your Saturday morning with this gentle and invigorating mindful vinyasa (flow) practice. Perfect for all levels, Rise and Shine is a sun-salutation based class that will move at a slower pace, encouraging you to connect body with breath, enabling a greater focus on turning inward after a busy week at work, or a too-much-fun Friday night. This 75-minute, slow steady flow practice is infused with just enough alignment and meditation to keep you feeling balanced and free for the rest of your weekend. Zen room.

Hot Core Power

This class moves your practice from the static poses of Bikram into an introduction to vinyasa flow. Additional poses are introduced that include further hip opening, upper body / core strengthening and preparatory work in alignment based sun salutations. The class is taught in a room heated to 95 degrees, with music to energize the flow. All levels including beginners are welcome and will find this class accessible, however Hot Yoga Basics and several Bikram classes would be the best way to begin your Hot Room journey. Hot room.

Meditative Flow

This class focuses on creating a state of deep introspection through the practice of breathwork and asanas (postures). The class starts with pranayama (breathing techniques) and a series of flowing and strengthening postures to help bring strength, stability and energy into the body and mind. The class closes with restorative postures focused on flexibilty and relaxation. This class is appropriate for beginners, for those with therapeutic needs and for more advanced students looking for a meditative class. 75 minutes. Zen room.
All levels.

Therapeutic Yoga

This yoga class works with the common musculoskeletal imbalances that occur with pain and injury. Postures are chosen based on the student’s in the class as well as the understanding of these common imbalances. Props and modifications are used to help all students experience the healing potential in each posture. Pranayama and meditation will be included to work with the nervous system and to help with pain, anxiety and depression. This class is geared towards students with injury, chronic pain, stress, anxiety and depression.
All levels.

Kundalini

Kundalini Yoga is called the Yoga of Awareness. It is a dynamic, powerful tool that utilizes movement, sound, breath and meditation to relax and restore your mind and body while improving strength, flexibility and endurance. This powerfully effective form of yoga stimulates the immune, nervous and glandular systems, helping to bring you back into true harmony. It is a sacred and scientific technology that enables you to access and realize your own creative energy to unlock your potential and elevate your consciousness. In these classes you will experience good techniques for self-development to generate profound and lasting advancement. This class is 60 minutes. Lotus room.

Prenatal

Our Prenatal Yoga class is perfect for women in any stage of pregnancy. We will practice basic Hatha Yoga stretches designed to increase comfort during pregnancy as well as to prepare our bodies for labor and birth. The class will provide a supportive environment for women to share their experiences and to bond with their pre-born babies. There will be a focus on developing confidence in the body and in the mind as we progress toward the time of labor . We will learn how to connect directly with the breath as it relates to deep relaxation and mindfulness of what is occurring in the body moment by moment. No previous experience is needed to participate. 75 minutes. Zen room.

3-in-1 Yoga

Asana (postures) 40 mins
Pranayama (breathing) 5 – 10 mins
Meditation (sitting still) 10 – 15 mins
Get it done in an hour! For students looking to deepen their understanding and experience with regular meditation, this one hour class guarantees 10 minutes of meditation every single session. The meditation will be preceded by 5 – 10 minutes of un-rushed, spacious pranayama (breathing) practice and a solid 40 minutes of mindful vinyasa sequenced to prepare you for sitting. Come SIT and experience STILLNESS. Zen room.

Barkan

The Barkan Method of Hot Yoga is a style of hatha yoga that originates from the Bishnu Gosh lineage in Calcutta, India. It is built on many of the poses and philosophies of Bikram Choudhury and Bishnu Ghosh but also integrates postures from other styles of yoga to create variations and even greater range of motion. The Barkan Method strengthens and stretches all areas of the body, which helps to quiet the mind, and nourish the soul. The movements of The Barkan Method reach deep into the tissue, relieve tension and stress, revitalize and assist in overcoming many physical and emotional problems. Hot room.

Hot Vinyasa

Hot Vinyasa is a strong flowing practice for students who have conditioned their bodies by practicing Bikram and Hot Core Power in order to prepare them for this next level of practice. Students will move with the breath, lengthening the spine while building strength and flexibility. Conscious ujjayi breath will set the rhythm of this Vinyasa class as you flow from pose to pose. Due to the flowing action of the practice, the room temperature is set around 85 degrees. As you flow through the poses you generate more heat and this is why we start the class off at a lower temperature. Previous Bikram, Hot Core Power or some other flowing yoga class experience is recommended prior to taking this class. Ability to perform chaturanga with good alignment, and/or the willingness to modify this action for safety, is encouraged. Hot room.
Level 2.

Power Flow (Advanced)

A vigorous sequence designed for those who have taken our Hot Vinyasa class for months or who have practiced Ashtanga consistently. It is most important that your body is conditioned, you understand the importance of good alignment and you are comfortable with inversions. This class is not designed with beginners in mind, so, if you are new to yoga, please choose a class that is more appropriate for your abilities. If you have any doubts, please consult with our teachers.
Level 2.

Family Yoga, Ages 6 – Infinity

Our children live in a hurry-up world of busy parents, school pressures, incessant lessons, video games, malls, and competitive sports. We usually don’t think of these influences as stressful for our kids, but often they are.

Join us for a dynamic yoga class for the family, offering kids a chance to practice yoga with their loved ones. Classes are structured with an emphasis on interactive and partner poses for kids and adults to do together. This hatha yoga class will explore age- appropriate poses, breathing and relaxation exercises, partner poses between parent and child, and cooperative games. Increased body awareness, strength and flexibility, stress relief and relaxation are all wonderful benefits for kids and adults alike. Our yoga classes encourage self- acceptance, compassion, creative expression and discipline, while giving families an opportunity to connect to their loved ones and share the well- being that comes with doing yoga. Zen room.

Kids, Ages 4-6

Life can be like an Elevator, with many ups and downs, with a few stops in between. For the young yogi this class will use elements of play and fun all the while helping the child to experience both the physical and emotional benefits of yoga. This class will incorporate weekly themes around the ideas of honor, balance, connection and more. Zen room.

Kids, Ages 7-9

Yoga is the study of YOU and the point of our practice is to cultivate the self-awareness needed to be happy, healthy, and whole. We begin each class with meditation tuning into the physical, mental and emotional self, and we encourage students to set the intention of caring for themselves throughout the practice. We start with stretches to warm up followed by a flow sequence and we often build up to a pinnacle challenge pose and/or a group game. We close every class with savasana and guided meditation, bringing awareness to the importance of finding a balance of effort and ease on and off the mat. We have so much fun laughing and learning together on our journey to discovering our most authentic selves! Zen room.

Kids, Ages 10-12

Yoga Tweens begins with a few minutes of quiet tuning in, followed by a practice of grounded yoga! Poses are traditional yoga poses enhanced by tapping into what all tweens relate to in their lives. Students will learn the benefits of each pose and how to bring yoga into their everyday lives. Each class is based on an inspirational theme. Class ends in the traditional savasana (quiet corpse pose) and guided imagery. Zen room.

Young Vinyasa, Ages 13-15

Has your teen grown beyond Kids Yoga? Help them move confidently towards their own practice in this ongoing series. Rooted in basic Vinyasa instruction – including sun salutations and how to “flow” in class – students will explore fundamentals such as energy points, mind, deep stretching, working with anatomy, focus, and more, through empowering themed classes relative to the issues – change, self esteem, temptation – that characterize their lives.This class will help them find balance, physical and inner strength, and peace at the end of a busy school day. Students will further enjoy the opportunity to let go and relax with a guided Yoga Nidra (yogic sleep-like meditation with guided visualization) that emphasize focus, clear thinking, and the relaxation of mind, body and spirit that helps us all recharge. All levels, in a non-hot room. Zen room.

Alignment Flow

A strong and mindful alignment-based vinyasa class synchronizing breath and movement. This class will build internal heat with flows and longer holds, focusing on precise alignment to emphasize clarity and sustainability in the postures. Some experience practicing vinyasa recommended, but not required. Zen Room.

Cool Vinyasa Flow

Cool Vinyasa is an energetic flowing practice for all levels of students. Students can expect a dynamic physical flow exploring the coordination of conscious breathing with movement (asana) in a well-paced practice. Students can also experience a range of poses; some old, some new that build strength, flexibility and create a foundation of balance and introspection. Inversions, arm balances, backbends, twists and core work will also be included in this fun, energetic, safe, non-hot class. Zen Room.
